Complex systems pervade the modern world. They can be biological, physical or social systems that are composed of many parts. While these parts are often simple, the interactions between large numbers of them produce complex overall behaviour. Ant colonies, sporting teams, the Internet, economic markets, the weather, energy systems, and the brain are all examples of complex systems.

The ARC Centre for Complex Systems (ACCS) was a research centre funded by the Australian Research Council from 2003-2009. It conducted world-class basic and applied research on questions fundamental to understanding and managing complex systems.
